Valentines Art Crawl

artcrawlartcrawl valentinesWatertown will be kicking off the Valentine’s season on Saturday, Feb. 9, with the 2013 edition of the annual Valentine’s Art Crawl. The crawl, which is sponsored by the Local Artist Guild (LAG), will run twice throughout the day. Festivities will begin with the arrival of the Murder Mystery Excursion train late morning with a break mid-afternoon, and again from 6 pm until 9 pm. Some locations will be serving wine and cheese in the evening – to patrons of age, of course.

There are eight stops along the art crawl. Locations will be marked with red hearts during the event. The crawl begins at Sonshine Leather on West Main Street. From there, patrons will travel down the square to the upcoming 204 Fitness, located next to the Public Library. After leaving 204 Fitness, the trail will continue to the Gypsy Moon and Thornton Metal Studios.

Continuing off the square down East Main Street, Walker Creek Coffee and LuLu’s Coffeehouse and Café will be the next two stops. Lulu’s will be hosting display of work by missing Watertown artist David Reimens (see story on this page).

Continuing down East Main, ou will find Grass Roots Gifts and Collectables across from Nona Liisa Pizzeria. Grass Rots is location number 7 on the art crawl. It will lead patrons back toward the square and to the final location of Hunter Gallery, located in the front lobby of The Watertown Gazette.

The Watertown Band Boosters will also be selling goods during the art crawl to raise money for their organization. They will have available baked goods, crafts and more.

They are seeking donations of wrapped baked goods or anything sellable with a valentine’s theme (like cards, flowers, crafts, etc.). Persons wishing to donate may drop items at the band portable on Friday or at the gazebo by 10 am the day of the event.

Participating artists include: Susan Thornton, Charlette Clemmer, Susan DeMay, Pat Jackson, Amy Potter, Brenda Hawkins, William Hunter, Mac Wilhouby, Donna Delmas, and many more.

Remember, nothing says “I love you” on Valentine’s Day like something original, and you can’t get more original than with art.

DIRECTIONS

Getting to Watertown: From Interstate 40 (traveling either direction) take exit 239A (Highway 70) toward Watertown.  Follow Hwy 70 approximately 10 miles (stay right at the fork in the road).  Turn left on Depot St (this intersection has a flashing light) which will take you to the Public Square.  Parking is available on the square and in several small lots just off the square.

Be sure to visit all four galleries to enjoy all the art and take home your very own unique piece from a local artist!
